Rice A Roonie, Home Made Goodness
3 cups uncooked rice
2 cups broken (small pieces) spaghetti
1/4 cup dried parsley
6 tablespoons beef or chicken bullion
2 teaspoons onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Mix and store in an air tight container.  Cook the same way you would cook rice.

Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups evaporated milk

Purifying Water
This is important knowledge where I live because of possible hurricanes.

Fill a pot with more water than you will need because some of it will boil away.  Bring
the water to a boil and boil 30 minutes.  Let cool to desired temperature.

Hot cocoa mix
1 cup dried milk
1/3 cup plus 3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Mix, store in an air tight container.  To a cup of milk add 2-3 tablespoons and heat to desired temperature.

  1. Your quiche recipe is quite familiar to me and I also like to make it with many variations.
Peas, cauliflower or spinach e.g. I make the pie shell with a shortcrust (flour, butter,
cold water, salt mixed together with a pastry cutter)And I add some fresh herbs like thyme.
I think, this recipe is international. At my friend´s house in France I had once eaten a quiche with smoked fish added. Quite good, but the whole quiche was very "fishy" then.

    1. If I remember right I received the recipe from a long time friend many years ago. It was her mom's, who came from Italy. I've never tried it with fish or any other ingredient that is not a traditional breakfast food. But, it sounds good.

  3. I can honestly say that rice mix is dynamite! When I'm lazy I use it for a main dish.

  4. Quiche is a French specialty from the region Lorraine (Eastern France, capitol is Metz.
Jeanne d´Arc came from Lorraine) The original QUICHE LORRAINE is made with a filling of
sour cream (creme fraiche), eggs, bacon (speck) and cheese. A bit of leek is good too.
There are really endless variations. And it is an ideal picknick food.

    1. I so appreciate the historical knowledge you bring to this blog. I bet a quiche made with sour cream would be delicious. I have some whipping cream to use up as well as sour cream. I feel an experiment coming on.
